DISCIPLINE
Without discipline you’ll become easy prey at the tables. Part of your strategy should be mucking trash hands before the flop. Too many players are willing to to pay to see the flop. They get involved in hands they had absolutely no business playing.
Texas Holdem tip #1: Learn the art of the fold. Fold TRASH hands pre-flop.
ATTITUDE
Napoleon Hill said, If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, don’t. If you like to win, but you think you can’t, it is almost certain you won’t.
Texas Holdem tip #2: Have a positive attitude. Focus on winning.
PATIENCE
Annie Duke said, Good poker players are boring poker players. Televised poker has spoiled us. TV makes us think we’ve got to always be a part of the action. What TV doesn’t show is the countless hands that Daniel Negreanu or Gus Hansen folded.
You might be at a table folding your first 15-20 hands. Boring! Don’t get impatient just to get some action.

Invest in some poker software that can monitor your game – I prefer Poker-spy and Poker office.
Both programs save your hand statistic and you can use the history to improve your game – and see which hands win and which who doesn’t.
You can also keep track of your opponents play, and determine which kind of players they are.
